When you think about the world around in life and in nature, you will get inspiration or food every day. Taking in this food is the spiritual way of life. A person who only takes in spiritual food lives like an animal. A higher level of life comes with spiritual or divine inspiration. I will give an example. I was sitting underneath a tree and kept on thinking. I realized that there is a living proof of God. When I realized that there was an exchange happening between me and the tree, I was reminded of the saying, In comparison that we understand.

I began to compare. There is no such exchange happening anywhere in the universe. There is cooperation in the entire universe. Parts of the universe cooperates with its other parts. But cooperation and exchange are different from one another. A philosopher has said that a law of nature is Each for all and all for each. This is cooperation. Parts of the universe cooperate with its other parts. But exchange is different. That is an exception which occurs between a human being and a tree. Both are givers and takers for each other. The universe is very vast. In this vast universe, there are more than billion and billion of items.

There is only one exception in this universe, and that is a human being. This gives proof of a clear intervention. And an intervention gives proof of an intervener. Thinking along these lines gave me spiritual food. This is the meaning of the verse: كُونُوا رَبَّانِيِّينَ (3:79) That is, bring God-oriented thinking and behaviour in yourself. This is Islam. Following rituals alone is not religion or Islam. Islam or religion is the name of living spiritually.
